HISTORY

Uganda is a nation in East of Africa with a population of over 45 million people. For over 40 years, many Ugandans have moved to the state of Oklahoma in several cities and towns like Tulsa and Oklahoma City among others, which they now call home. Earlier Ugandan immigrants moved to the state seeking refuge from past brutal regimes in Ugandan. Many have also moved to Oklahoma to pursue higher education. Ugandans have settled in the state due to the vast opportunities that the state has to offer. As a result of over four decades` immigration to Oklahoma, the Ugandan community has over the years embraced the journey to create a vibrant community that welcomes new Ugandans to the state and helps them integrate, unites the existing Ugandan population, and fosters an environment that celebrates the vastness of the Ugandan culture through creating spaces where Ugandans can maintain their culture and share it with others. Creating and maintaining a meaningful community thousands of miles from home helps Ugandans in Oklahoma maintain their roots as they actively integrate to their new found home. Through this comes a responsibility to support each other to thrive morally, socially, and economically.
